Kocsis, János Balázs

Dr. Kocsis, János Balázs, Electrical Engineer (Budapest University of Technology and Economics, 1995), Sociologist (Eötvös Loránd University, 1999), Urbanist (University of Leicester, UK), defended his PhD degree in 2008 at Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Social Sciences. The title of his dissertation is „Urban Development and Urban Growth in Budapest, 1930-1985”. In 2014-15, he was a visiting lecturer at the University of Indiana, in Bloomington. Since October 2016, he is a research leader at the Office for Coordination of Municipal Affairs at the Ministry of Interior of Hungary.


His main research fields include the sociology and history of urban processes, housing policies, local development, municipal decision making, means and practices of the inclusion of citizens. Analyzed phenomena are suburbanization, the polycentric transformation of urban regions, the structural transformation of cities, and the status of inside areas.
